Under Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the brand new Federal Skilled Trades Program is helping the economy grow by addressing serious labour shortages in some of Canada’s regions.
Canadian employers in many industries have long been asking for ways to get skilled trades people to meet their demands. This new program is helping Canada move toward a fast and flexible immigration system that responds to Canada’s economic needs.
This year, applications will be accepted from up to 3,000 trades people. The specific trades were chosen to meet Canada’s current labour market needs. The program aims to provide a wide variety of skilled trades people to fuel Canada’s economy.
To apply, you must be qualified in one of the eligible trades and have basic English or French language skills. You also need to have an offer of employment in Canada or a certificate of qualification from a province or territory, and meet other work experience and employment requirements.
