Transcript:

The Arctic Winter Games Arena was constructed as an arena for the Arctic Winter Games. It was left as a legacy to the city. Residents were able to enjoy this facility for only two years, until the arena started sinking. The floor started sinking. Sadly, the arena was down for about seven years. It was not able to be used as an arena.

The Economic Action Plan provided stimulus funding to kick-start the project. It really helped to get the other levels of government involved. Once the stimulus funding was confirmed from the federal government, the territorial government and the city were able to commit funds to make the project happen.

It’s important that children and families have access to indoor recreation facilities and programs. In the North, the days are short. It’s dark out and cold. Kids really need a place to play indoors during this time. It’s essential for a healthy community. The Economic Action Plan not only stimulated our economy, but it stimulated the community.
